Accessing Lakehouse Data

This guide describes how to access OSDU data from the Fabric Lakehouse. Workspace access has been removed for consumer groups — data is available directly via ABFSS paths to Gold access tables, controlled through Entra ID groups.

Users no longer require access to the Fabric workspace UI. Access to data is provided directly via the Lakehouse table (vw_global_access) using ABFSS paths, controlled through the Entra ID group data.office.global.viewers.

How to Get Access

Access to the OSDU Lakehouse is granted via a ServiceNow request. Once approved, your Entra ID account will be added to the appropriate group and you will be able to read data via the ABFSS paths below.

Steps:

  1. Open the OSDU Lakehouse Access Request form in ServiceNow
  2. Fill in your name, business justification, and the environment(s) you need access to (Dev, Test, Prod)
  3. Submit the request — it will be reviewed by the platform team
  4. Once approved, your Entra ID account will be added to the relevant group and access to the [group]_access_data table will be granted via ABFSS

Tip

For additional restricted views beyond the default Gold access table, describe your requirements in the Additional Information field of the ServiceNow form.

ABFSS Paths

The paths below are samples for accessing the global access table (vw_global_access). If you have been provisioned a custom access table, the platform team will provide you with the specific ABFSS path for your table — you can use it in the same way.

Key notes:

  • You can use the ABFSS path from any Fabric workspace or notebook where you have compute access
  • Direct workspace access to the OSDU Fabric environments (OSDU-Fabric-Dev, OSDU-Fabric-Test, OSDU-Fabric-Prod) is no longer required
  • For additional restricted views, raise a ServiceNow request
