Data Access

To see data in OSDU, you must join a data access group. Joining a group once grants you access across Development, Test, and Production simultaneously.

Identify your ACL Group
Data access is controlled by ACL groups. You need the right viewer group to read data, or an owner group to write. The group depends on your data classification and type.

The process depends on whether you're a user or have an application that needs access. See the detailed instructions below.

Verify your Access
Confirm you can see data by running a search query:

Request access

I need to read data

Request the viewer group in AccessIT matching your data type:

  • Reference data and master data: search for DataOffice Global (ACL: data.office.global.viewers)
  • Work product component: request data.office.country.viewers + data.office.asset.viewers

Once approved, you can read the records covered by that group — across all environments. You can follow the same process for any other Data Office group in AccessIT.

I need to write data

For Production, ensure you have completed the Production Readiness Checklist → first.

Write access requires two things:

  1. Platform write access — you need editor-level access first. See Platform Access.
  2. Data owner group membership — contact the Data Office to be added.

Request owner group membership:

  1. Email dadal@equinor.com (Dag Andre) or elibjo@equinor.com (Eli Bjørnevoll)
  2. Specify which data and owner group you need access to
  3. Once added, you can write to those records across all environments
My app needs to read data

Determine which access group covers the data your app needs (e.g. data.office.global.viewers).

  1. Submit the OSDU Data Access Request form with the required details.
  2. The Data Office team will review the request and grant the requested viewer permissions when approved. Your app can then read the records covered by that group — across all environments.
My app needs to write data

For Production, ensure you have completed the Production Readiness Checklist → first.

Write access requires two things:

  2. Data owner group membership — contact the Data Office to have your app's service principal added.

Request owner group membership:

  1. Submit the OSDU Data Access Request form with the required details.
  2. The Data Office team will review the request and grant the requested owner permissions when approved. Your app can then write to those records across all environments.
